Mumbai: The BMW Group on Wednesday launched the new models of its compact luxury car Mini in India. The three-door model of the Mini will cost Rs.32 lakh, while the five-door variant will cost Rs.35 lakh.
Powered by the same 1.5 litre, three-cylinder engine, both models will be imported from Oxford, UK. BMW currently has four exclusive Mini outlets in the country. The models are available for sale starting Wednesday, the company said.
The BMW Group introduced the Mini in India in 2012. “We are in the beginning of a long-term growth story,” said Philipp von Sahr, president of BMW Group India, commenting on the Mini. Sahr said the company is studying plans to assemble the model locally.
Cars imported into India as fully built units attract 110% duty, while those which come in knocked-down kits to be assembled here attract 60%. BMW assembles eight models at its factory in Chennai.
