Cochin: While the Big Brother in Kerala Television Market; Asianet is conveniently enjoying the leadership position in Malayalam GEC market. The No. 2 position in the market is facing a stiff competition with three channels of various Media entities constantly trying to occupy the space with great deal of fighting.
Mazhavil Manorama from Manorama Group, Surya TV from Sun TV Network and Flowers TV from Insight MediaCity are the three entertainment channels that keep exchanging the No. 2 position among themselves.
After the launch of Naagini (Nagakanyaka) on Surya TV during the middle of 2016, the channel has jumped up in the ladder from No. 4 to No. 2 in matter of few weeks and continued to command the spot for many weeks. Flowers to Its part also kept sneaking in to No. 2 position for quite a few weeks in regular intervals. Mazhavil Manorama on its part is fighting hard to retain the No. 2 position which it secured during the later 2015 and early 2016 with the launch of big ticket Non-fiction properties like Made for each other and Minute TO Win It.
The Channel has managed to grab the No. 2 position for a brief period recently during the week 6 to week 9 of 2017. According to the BARC data for week 6 to 9, All day, 24 hrs in Fe 15+ NCCS AB, the four week Average Impressions Sum (000s) of Mazhavil Manorama 27,824 against Surya TV’s 20,371 and Flowers 19,670. While the Market leaders Asianet secured 87,851 Imp (000s).
The following charts with performance of Top 5 Malayalam GEC in week 5 to week 8 shows that Mazhavil was holding the No. 2 spot during the week 5,7,8 while Surya TV held the No. 2 spot in week 6.
