Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has posted pre-tax sales of £7.8bn for 2014, a rise of 135 per cent on the year previous.
The rapid rise of Xiaomi is reflected in its device sales which topped 61m phones in 2014, a 227 per cent increase on the 2013 figure.
In a blog post Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun said: “2014 is a year of important milestones for Xiaomi. We came from behind and became market leader in China.
“We have successfully entered seven markets outside mainland China. In India, we sold over 1 million smartphones in less than five months.”
Xiaomi is expected to announce a new top end handset in the coming weeks and will target further growth through a combination of product innovation and developing its ecosystem whilst also targeting global growth.
